What's New with the 2017 Toyota Tundra?

While the 2016 Tundra was a popular option for drivers, Toyota decided to make some improvements to provide people with an even better experience. The most notable change has to do with models that have the 4.6-liter V8 engine. These models now include a tow hitch receiver. This allows Tundra owners to tow up to 6,800 pounds with ease. In addition, the latest Tundra also provides a big change for the Limited models. Now, these models include power front bucket seats as a standard feature. This makes it much easier for drivers and passengers to get comfortable on long journeys. Just adjust your seat and get ready to ride.

The 2017 Tundra also has an updated color palette. Those who get the base SR trim levels can choose from Black, Super White, and Barcelona Red Metallic. In addition, the Tundra SR5 and Limited trim options are now available in the Inferno color. This is in addition to the Quicksand color that was already available. Finally, the Tundra TRD Pro models now are available in Barcelona Red Metallic and Cement. All of these new colors make the Tundra more of a standout than ever before.

History of the Toyota Tundra

As Toyota continues to build on the Tundra, one can't help but wonder about the vehicle's history. How did it get to the point it is at now, and what does that mean for the future of the Tundra?

The Toyota Tundra was created to replace the T100 pickup. Because of that, it was initially called the T150, but Toyota quickly changed the name because it sounded too similar to another truck by rival automaker Ford. It didn't take long for Toyota to realize it had a popular truck on its hands. When the first model was released in 2000, consumers flocked to it, and it managed to sell over 100,000 units that first year. It was a hit.

At first, it was very similar to the T100 and the Tacoma, but Toyota made some changes to it for the 2003 model year. It updated the grille and introduced the Stepside Cab. Then, it brought in a Double Cab for the 2004 model year. It also made some changes to the engine and transmission options for 2004. The following year, Toyota added a 6-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed automatic transmission to the Tundra. Toyota also updated the engine to produce more horsepower.

The second generation made its debut in 2007. The new generation had more horsepower and included more customization options. This generation was embraced by construction workers and even had headrests that easily fit a hardhat. Finally, it was time for the third generation in 2014. It underwent major design changes, but the chassis and power-train remained the same. By this time, Toyota realized it had optimal power, so it just needed to update the looks.
